South Campus Continued Occupancy

THE APPLICATION

(AVAILABLE ON THE HOUSING PORTAL)
South Campus Housing Selection Night takes place on DATE AND TIME FOR NEXT YEAR TBD. This is where you will select your housing and sign your binding housing contract for the next academic year.
More information will be sent out via housing@cornell.edu.

WHAT IS THE CONTINUED OCCUPANCY PROCESS?

The South Campus community dedicates a certain amount of space in each building for students wishing to stay in the same building they are currently in for the following academic year

This is a randomized process for time slots. After you apply by the deadline (TBD for coming year), your application will be randomly paired with a time slot dictating when you can begin the room/bed selection during the process. It does not take factors like class year or years in a building into consideration.

All South Campus students will receive an email from housing@cornell.edu with the following info post application submission:
-An email with a time slot and an invitation to our South Campus Housing Selection Night or
-An email signifying you are on a waitlist for housing in your specific building pending availability after South Campus selection night

CAN I APPLY BY MYSELF?

If you are interested in applying for continued occupancy by yourself, you will:

Fill out the application with yourself as a Block Leader and leave the other member spaces blank

Receive a randomized lottery number..

Attend the South Campus Housing Selection Night (virtually) during your time slot to pick your room for the next acadmic year.

Selection night happens in the fall semester each year.  Students will not be able to sign their housing license until the spring semester.

CAN I BLOCK ROOMS WITH OTHERS?

If you are interested in blocking with others, you will:

Fill out one application together (up to one other current resident of the same building), designating one of you as a Block Leader

As the block leader, you will attend the South Campus Housing Selection Night (virtually) representing your group (block) during your shared randomized time slot to pick all block member's rooms.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BLOCKING…

If you are unable to attend selection night in person, you are able to designate a proxy (a trusted friend of your choosing) to attend in your place (please contact housing@cornell.edu).

A proxy form will be sent out with time slots. Your proxy will also need to complete the form to make sure both parties are aware of this

You will be asked to provide a legitimate reason why you cannot attend yourself. Remember that this is selecting your housing for next year – it is very important and should be made a priority for you to attend!

If you are not able to attend Room Selection and a proxy selects a room for you, you will receive an email from the Housing office with instructions on signing your contract. If you do not sign your contract within 24 hours, you will forfeit your room.

DO I NEED TO SIGN UP FOR THE GENERAL HOUSING LOTTERY?

To participate in the C/O process, you must complete the Housing Application on the Housing Portal before the South Campus Housing Selection Night.

Housing is not guaranteed to all students in the South Campus C/O process. Having a time slot in the General Room Selection process is a good back-up in the event that you do not find a space in the South Campus community.

You will receive a timeslot for the General Housing Lottery. You may ignore this timeslot unless you do not receive a space in the South Campus C/O process.

Additionally, If you successfully find a room in South Campus during the C/O process, you will automatically be removed from the general lottery process.

CAN I LOOK AT FLOOR PLANS FOR MY BUILDING?

Floor plans will not be available until selection starts.  You will be able to look at rooms online.

If you are looking for a particular room….. walk around! You can only apply for your own community, so you have full access to the building

BEFORE SIGNING THE FORM…

Completing this form is NOT the same as signing a housing contract

You can change your mind about where you would like to live until you sign your housing contract during the South Campus Housing Selection Night or whatever housing process you go through
