A new understanding of Latine identity and expression.

Mecha provides academic and personal support to students in the organization, enhances the community's awareness of Latino culture through educational, cultural, and social programming, and promotes the continued education of Latino students. We are working towards a decolonial understanding of the "Latino" label. Although Mecha caters to the Latine community, the organization is open to anyone willing to liberate and empower the marginalized. We aim to celebrate our cultures and history but remain cognizant of the facts, stories, and voices that have yet to enter the mainstream conversations around what it means to be Latine.

About Us

Mecha de Cornell serves as a Latino-based cultural and political organization on campus. We seek to bring awareness to issues impacting our community while also creating a space to celebrate our rich cultural heritage. Although Mecha’s cultural and political programming is catered to the Latino community at Cornell, we also serve as a space for cross-racial and ethnic solidarity and mobilization across campus. Our events are open to anyone regardless of their racial or ethnic identities! We aim to celebrate our cultures and history while remaining committed to our mission to liberate and empower the marginalized.

Goals

As the official voice of Latino students at Cornell University, Mecha’s main objective is to provide a sense of community and security, build bridges between other organizations, and increase the recruitment and retention of Latino Cornellians. Mecha also intends to help the Latino community develop an understanding of Latino history and be involved in current issues. This intent is meant to inspire success at Cornell.
