The mission of the REACH 21st Century Community Learning Center is to create safe, supportive learning environments that foster student achievement, social competencies, and other protective factors by leveraging strong community partnerships to deliver an afterschool program that intentionally integrates social and emotional learning into academic support; experiential learning opportunities fused with research-based 4-H youth development programming, mentoring, and family education activities. Cornell tutors support 3rd-8th grade students at Odessa-Montour, Spencer-Van Etten, Watkins Glen, and Waverly schools.

Volunteers provide Littles with one-to-one time and attention in our community. Bigs and Littles usually meet once per week for a couple of hours. During these outings, matches participate in a variety of fun, recreational, and educational activities. What matches do depends on what they like, but they each benefit from learning about each other, discovering new interests and skills, and forming a true friendship together.

The University-wide Center for Vertebrate Genomics has several goals related to the enhancement of research and education in vertebrate genetics and functional genomics at Cornell. These include:

Conducting various activities to foster academic and research interactions amongst vertebrate geneticists across the campus.

Assisting in the recruitment of outstanding scientists with expertise in vertebrate functional genomics.

Contributing to relevant undergraduate and graduate education, postdoctoral training and recruiting, and the acquisition of grants to support these efforts. The Center oversees an NIH training grant in vertebrate developmental genomics.

Supporting shared resources and enabling technologies relevant to modern genomics research.

They receive on-going training designed to help them craft a critical lens, and become cognizant of aspects within our society that are nuances of sexual violence and bias. In turn, they actively engage their peers to help them become more aware of these issues. They also inform the students of the many supportive campus and community resources that are available to assist individuals who have been impacted by any form of sexual misconduct. Through programming, students learn how to cultivate healthy relationships in intentional ways, and how to be an active bystander within their communities.

A CORE RA is:
• A peer leader, educator, and role model in their community.
• Additional resource for RA staff and students on topics surrounding sexual violence and misconduct prevention.
• Representative of the community on CORE team, and in large-scale and campus-wide efforts
• NOT an expert, but someone who is continuously learning and gaining skills to transfer to community.

During the year CORE RAs will focus on the following (but not limited to) themes:
• Affirmative consent education
• Bystander education and intervention strategies
• Societal and media literacy as it pertains to the pervasiveness of sexual violence and gender constructs
• Healthy relationships, with an emphasis on gender inclusion and diversity

The Cornell Chimes
The bells of Cornell, referred to as the Cornell Chimes, are the heartbeat of campus life, marking the hours and chiming daily concerts. The original set of nine bells, a gift of Jennie McGraw, first rang out at the university's opening ceremonies October 7, 1868. Over time the chime has been recast and expanded to 21 bells. Three concerts are performed each day while classes are in session.

Cornell Cinema was established in 1970 as a university film society, but has evolved into a regional exhibition program with a national reputation. Its primary mission is educational: to expose audiences to a diverse range of cinematic experiences (classics, documentaries, experimental work, silent films, international cinema, shorts programs, alternative animation) that would otherwise not be offered in the area, and to supplement these with educational services that enhance viewers’ appreciation of the art form (media maker presentations, faculty introductions, and panel discussions with experts on subject matter). Its secondary mission is to offer the campus community affordable, second-run popular Hollywood entertainment.
