Meet Your FIRst Professor
How are you feeling about the first day of classes? Join FIR Stephanie for a conversation about what to expect, how to create good relationships with professors and TAs, manage time commitments, and whatever else is on your mind. I'll also share how I stay calm on the first day of classes - professors get anxious too! The program will run from 7 PM to 9 PM - you're welcome to drop in any time, and there's no expectation that you have to stay the entire time.

Iconic Cornell - Cornell Daily Sun Tour
Meet the students behind The Cornell Daily Sun, the nation’s oldest continuously independent college daily newspaper. Since 1880, The Sun has helped tell Cornell’s story — covering campus life, breaking news, opinion, sports, arts, and the issues that shape the university. Join current editors and reporters for a behind-the-scenes look at student journalism at Cornell and learn how first-year students can get involved as writers, photographers, editors, designers, podcasters, or business staff. We will travel to their downtown office for a tour, learn to use the bus, and then stop for delicious, handmade snacks downtown before heading back to campus. Travel details: Meet Donlon faculty-in-residence, Sabrina Karim, and RHD Haley, inside the first floor of Robert Purcell Community Center (near Bear Necessities) at 4:00pm to board the TCAT bus and travel downtown for a 5:00pm tour of The Cornell Daily Sun. Immediately following the tour, enjoy Mama Said Hand Pies and desserts at Press Bay Alley before boarding the bus back to campus. This event is part of the "Iconic Cornell" series and is open to all undergrads. It is a faculty-in-residence sponsored event.

Iconic Cornell - Big Red Scavenger Hunt
Get a group of your new classmates together to compete in a Cornell-themed scavenger hunt! You'll be given a series of clues that will lead your team all across campus. No worries if you don't have a team together, we will group you. Meet McClintock Hall faculty-in-residence, Nozomi Nishimura and Chris Schaffer, in front of the main entrance of Appel Commons 12:45pm to begin the scavenger hunt. All attendees will receive free ice cream and a chance to win all-access movie passes to Cornell Cinema. This event is part of the "Iconic Cornell" series. Iconic Cornell - Botanic Gardens Tour and Free Plant
Join RBG Hall faculty-in-residence Kristen Underhill for a personalized, close-up look at the diverse and beautiful plant collections that Cornell Botanic Gardens has to offer. After the tour, stay and pot your own free plant! Arrive at the Nevin Welcome Center at 4:45. Tour at 5:00pm, houseplant workshop at 6:00pm. About Cornell Botanic Gardens As a living museum, our cultivated gardens, arboretum, and natural areas serve as outdoor classrooms for instruction across seven Cornell colleges and host research that seeks to address some of our world’s most pressing problems. Iconic Cornell - Stargazing at Fuertes Observatory
Join Faculty-In-Residence Stephanie Thomas for an evening at the Fuertes Observatory. Members of the Cornell Astronomical Society will give us a tour of the facility and tell us about the history of the building and the Irving Porter Church Telescope - a 12" refractor, still driven by the original mechanical clockwork mechanisms. We'll learn about Cornell's long tradition of astronomic research, the role Fuertes Observatory played, and what research is currently underway. If the skies are clear, we'll even have a special opportunity for some stargazing through the telescope! Meet FIR Stephanie at the Observatory at 8:00pm. Iconic Cornell - History Walk with Corey Ryan Earle
Join Cornell University historian Corey Ryan Earle '07 and CKB faculty-in-residence Connie Yuan for a history walk through the heart of campus. Beginning beneath McGraw Tower, the tour explores the architecture and history woven into Cornell’s iconic spaces — highlighting the fascinating stories behind campus landmarks, statues, plaques, and inscriptions. The tour concludes with complimentary coffee at Cafe Jennie, offering time to reflect on the artistry, history, and character that define Cornell’s campus. Meet beneath McGraw Tower at 1:25pm to begin the tour at 1:30pm. This event is part of the "Iconic Cornell" series and is open to undergraduates. Hosted by North Campus faculty-in-residence and Faculty Living-Learning Programs.

Iconic Cornell - Movie Magic at Cornell Cinema (Family Members Welcome)
Join Mews Hall faculty-in-residence Claire Menard for a special behind-the-scenes tour of Cornell Cinema, your on-campus movie theatre! Learn more about Cornell Cinema and its rich history, tour the projection booth, and enjoy a selection of vintage movie trailers from our 35mm collection. Parents and family members are especially welcome to attend as part of Family Weekend. Whether you're sharing a love of movies across generations or reminiscing about the magic of seeing films on the big screen, this event offers a unique opportunity to experience one of Cornell's beloved cultural traditions together. For those who would like to extend the experience and meet new friends, there is also an optional dinner and movie outing. After the tour, the group will enjoy dinner together at Okenshields, then return to Cornell Cinema to watch the 2026 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour at 6:00 pm. Space is limited, so registration is required for the tour of Cornell Cinema. If your parent(s)/family are attending, please reserve a ticket for each person in Campus Groups. You do not need to register for dinner or the Sundance Short Film viewing. All events are complimentary. About Cornell Cinema Established in 1970, Cornell Cinema is a beloved, on-campus film exhibition program at Cornell University.
