Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Latinx Connect (October 14-16) is a 3-day virtual conference, free and open to all, intended to bring together students, educators, community leaders, political advocates, and others to dialogue about Latinx identities, cultures, and contemporary issues. The conference features a wide-ranging slate of speakers and programs centered on topical areas such as education, immigration, civil rights, arts & culture, health equity, intersectional identities, and gender equality. Of note, the conference includes live music acts and entertainment.
DJ Positive Vibes Only and Loyalty Entertainment’s DJ Lex will be mixing Latin music, hip-hop, and top 40 vibes. Their virtual sets will be available during breaks for all attendees to enjoy!
Brazilian songstress, Lilly Abreu, will present a program of exotic and enchanted Brazilian music, as well as some of the quintessential Latin American romantic boleros of the twentieth century. The soprano will join the live stream and will answer your questions about Brazil, its Portuguese language and culture, and will demonstrate a few samba steps. Lilly will perform with Eric Susoeff on guitar and Dwayne Dolphin on bass.
Latinx Connect will conclude with a series of sessions that will allow participants to reflect on their 3-day experience.
“Writing as Healing and Reflection” will allow participants to use writing as a form of reflection on ideas from the conference and healing as an overall need for Latinx and other minoritized communities.
“Meditation & Mindfulness” will allow us to hold collective space for mindfulness and meditation as we pause to be present with ourselves, one another, and fully decompress from the learning experiences in the conference.
The practice of yoga is rooted in relinquishing the mind and liberating the body, and will be offered in the session entitled, “Yoga as Healing.” Come ready to learn an appreciation for movement, pushing boundaries and spirituality
Through dance, “Salsa as Latinx Joy & Healing” will provide a space where joy and play will birth new life for collective activism and advocacy. All levels of experience are welcome to join
With remnants from each of our lives, including things around the house, “Art as Reflection” will provide time for reflection in both art & writing. This session will allow participants to reflect in an artistic and creative way.
Visit the Latinx Connect conference site for updates and details on featured speakers and events and information on all the 60+ programs taking place from Thursday, October 14 to Saturday, October 16.
