My name is Cristina Nieves (she/her/hers) and I am the Residence Hall Director (RHD) of Barbara McClintock. As a Residence Hall Director, I provide leadership, community and program development, administrative management, and student conduct management in support of our community. The Resident Advisor (RA) team and I are looking forward to spending this year supporting you!
You will learn more about my role as an RHD and the RA Team through hall meetings and weekly newsletters. In the meantime, know that we are here to support you as you transition (or return!) to Cornell!

Starting Today, Tuesday, August 19th, our RAs will be hosting Mandatory Community Meetings. Attendance is required for at least one meeting and please be sure to sign in. You are welcomed to attend any of the meetings below but it is encourged that you attend your RA's meeting:

If you are unable to make any of the meetings above, please be sure to reach out your RA to get the information from the meeting. Part 2 will be on Sundy, August 24th. Please look out for communication about when your RA will be hosting this meeting.

Below you will find some information to keep in mind as you arrive and get comfortable on campus!
Community Expectations:
Our RAs will talk about this in more in detail during the Community Meetings. However, here are a few things to make note of:
- Quiet Hours:
- Sunday-Thursday from 11 PM to 7:30 AM
- Friday and Saturday from 12 AM to 9 AM
- Keep in mind that there are 24 hour Courtesy Hours
- Quiet and Courtesy Hours are also in effect in the lounges near residential spaces.
- If you are in the lounges with a group of friends, please keep quiet and courtesy hours in mind.
- Items must not be stored in the hallways or in the bathrooms. Please make sure that you are removing any boxes, shoes, suitcases, trash bags from the hallways.
- From now and until the end of move-in, the trash rooms will be closed. Please use the dumpster outside until they are open.

- Service Center: You will be able to pick up your mail and packages at the Robert Purcell Service Center. Information about Service Center hours and contact information are located here and will be updated if/as hours change.

Facilities and Building Care Assistance:
Use the online Service Request system to report any concerns regarding alarms, damage, doors, drains, elevators, flooring, furniture, leaks, lights, locks, mechanical noise/failure odors power/electrical, service, room temperature, snow, water, or windows. For facilities emergencies, do not submit a service request, but rather follow the emergency request protocol and call.

Laundry:
Laundry machines are located Barbara McClintock (BAMC) 123. This on the first floor located toward the center of the hallway and will be on your right. Additional information about Laundry Services at Cornell can be found here.
Dining:
The closest Dining Hall to our Community is North Star Dining Room in Appel Commons. Additional information about Dining Services on campus can be found here, including locations, times of operations, and meal plan information.
Barbara McClintock Community Space Guide:
- Main entrance: McClintock is shaped as an upside down “L” with the main entrance being located close to APPEL COMMONS.
- Elevators: There are two elevators in the building. One is to the right when entering the Appel side of McClintock and the other is closer to the end of the hallway. Both require you to scan your Cornell ID. Below the are floors:
- B: Basement, this is where the facilities and building care offices are located
- G: Main Floor, RA office, RHD office, Main Kitchen, Laundry
- 2: Residential Floor
- 3: Residential Floor
- Staircase: There are 3 sets of staircases. One toward the beginning (Appel Entrance), middle, and end of the building.
- RA Office: This located in the main floor on your right between the RHD office and conference room.
- Public bathrooms are located on the main floor and are in a hallway behind the RA Office. There is a men’s, women’s, and an accessible restroom.
- Laundry Room: This is located toward the center of the hallway and will be on your right. There is only one laundry room for all of McClintock.
- Vending Machines: These are located to the right of the laundry room. There is one snack and two drink machines.
- Printer: In Barbara McClintock (BAMC) 120, we have a community breakout room, where residents can independently study. There is also a printer in the space. Please follow the CU Print Signs to set up the program and be able to print.
- Trash/ Recycling Rooms: There is one trash room on each floor. There are located on the beginning of each floor toward the Appel Entrance. From now and until the end of move-in, the trash rooms will be closed. Please use the dumpster outside until they are open.
- Lounges are in the residential area of the community. There are four lounges on floors 3 and 2 and there are two on the main floor.
- Kitchens: There are two kitchens on each floor. One is in the beginning of the hallway and the other is on the end. However, we have main kitchen on the main floor. Everyone is responsible for cleaning after themselves.Also, stoves should not be left unattended when in use. If you use the fridge, please label the items with your name and date. If not, it can be thrown. Please note that it is a community fridge, and we are not responsible for items.
- Entrances:There are six total entrances. We have the main entrance, one toward the main kitchen, two entrances toward the center of the building and two in lounge 140. When using these entrances, you must Scan your ID to gain access to the community. If you have guests, they must be escorted at all times. If someone is asking you to provide access to the community, please remind them to use their CUID or to call the resident who is hosting them as a guest.
