Six Mile Creek, Ithaca, NY

  • Age: Frasnian Stage (early Late Devonian Period, 382.7-372.2 Ma)
  • Businessmen's Lunch Falls, Six Mile Creek (see right)
  • Kimberlite, the beige/light brown rock (see below), welled into joints (planes of weakness) across the dark grey Devonian-aged shales when it was still molten during the Cretaceous Period (about 140 Ma). The intrusion is an unconformity (nonconformity) representing 235-314 million years of missing time!
