Who We Are

The Community Partnership Funding Board (CPFB), is a student-run grant board that seeks to foster student leadership and social responsibility by encouraging students to take action against social inequities. CPFB assists students in developing grassroots community action projects and administers grants of up to $2,500 made possible by the Student Activities Fee through the Student Assembly.

Our Philosophy

We seek to ensure that every grant project we support furthers the five aspects of our Philosophy Statement: Social Responsibility, Student Management, Partnership, Education, and Evaluation.

Do you have an idea for a project that furthers these goals?  If so, you may qualify for up to $2,500 in grant funding!

Social Responsibility

  • Address societal inequities and injustices through community and student action
  • Address root cause of social justice issues and affect lasting improvements in the quality of life of individuals and communities

Student Management

  • Foster student leadership by making it possible for students to take an active role in planning and implementing projects that benefit from financial resources

Partnership

  • Encourage students to work with community partners
  • Build a mutually beneficial relationship between students and community members
  • Better understand and work to foster community engagement

Education

  • Address a need for further education in one or more target audiences (e.g. students, community members, etc.)
  • Explore and develop creative problem solving techniques
  • Apply knowledge from coursework and other university resources to community action projects

Evaluation

  • Plans to include feedback from community members
  • Create reflection tools for students to reflect on personal performance in project
  • Assess strengths and weakness of project
  • Include a description of evaluation process that will be utilized or an example of an evaluation tool (e.g. surveys)

Our Process

  1. 1

    Submit Grant Application

Our grant application can be found under the "Apply for a Grant" page.  The deadline for submission for our Spring 2024 grant cycle is Wednesday, February 28th at 5:00 PM EST.

  2. 2

    Applicant Interview

We conduct an in-person interview with every student who applies for a grant so that we understand all aspects of the proposed project.

  3. 3

    Site Visit

Our board members will conduct an interview with the applicant's community partner, whether they are on or off campus.

  4. 4

    Grant Contract

If we approve a grant application, we sign a funding contract with the student grantee stipulating all requirements associated with receiving CPFB funding.

  5. 5

    Regular Weekly Meetings

Every student grantee is assigned a liaison on the board.  The grantees meet with their board liaison every week to give updates on the progress of the project.

  6. 6

    End-of-Year Symposium and Presentation

After all projects are completed in the spring, all grantees and communities partners attend our Annual End-of-Year Grant Symposium to present on their project and build new connections.
