About Us

Cornell Outdoor Education develops teamwork, leadership, and growth through outdoor experience.

We do so by:

  • Teaching outdoor skills and judgment for lifelong recreation and fitness.
  • Promoting environmental responsibility through personal connection to the natural world.
  • Empowering individuals and groups to move beyond self-imposed limitations.
  • Igniting a passion for experiential learning.
  • Enhancing initiative, self-reliance, and compassion for others.

Become an Instructor!

Share your passion and enthusiasm with others!

Whether you have been in the outdoors since your childhood, or you just took your first course with COE, there are many ways to get involved with COE! Many of our positions have cyclical hiring periods and fixed training dates, so be sure to read the fine print.

PE Instructors

Take the skills you've learned and inspire your fellow students. Work as part of an instructor team and hone your teaching skills. Don't be shy, apply!

Outdoor Odyssey Orientation Guide

Outdoor Odyssey is a pre-freshman orientation program hosted by Cornell Outdoor Education offering 4, 6 and 8 day trips. We offer a variety of trips: backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, community service, and even trips for transfer students.

Lindseth Climbing Wall Staff

Indoor rock climbing is an exciting and rewarding activity but can be intimidating to new climbers. At the same time, we want to challenge experienced climbers to push their limits. Join the team and help create a safe and welcoming environment for all climbers.

Gear up for your next adventure!

We supply the necessary gear for all of COE's course offerings. Additionally, we rent a very wide selection of equipment to the community at large. We carry camping and backpacking gear, canoes, sea kayaks, cross-country and telemark skis, snowshoes, and more.  In addition to outdoor gear, COE has a fleet of passenger vans available for rent to Cornell Departments and official Cornell events.
