Alpha Chi Omega was founded at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana on October 15, 1885. Its seven founders, who were all music students, sought "friendship, artistic society and advancement of the 'principles of true womanhood.'"
Today, Alpha Chi Omega has over 200,000 members nationally with over 135 collegiate chapters and 200 alumnae chapters.
The Zeta Phi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega was founded at Cornell in 1984 with 55 women. In the past thirty years, the Zeta Phi chapter has flourished from a small group of women meeting in classrooms to recognition as one of the strongest sororities on Cornell's campus - an organization in which academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership are exemplified through its 150 members. The Zeta Phi chapter is the oldest of the four Ivy League chapters of Alpha Chi Omega.

Alpha Epsilon Phi was founded on October 24th, 1909 by seven young women at Barnard College. Our mission is to to inspire and support exemplary women dedicated to friendship and a lifelong commitment to Alpha Epsilon Phi while building on the vision of our Jewish founders. The Kappa Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority was founded on Cornell's campus in 1920. AEPhi's national motto is "Many Hearts, One Purpose", and this rings true here at Cornell. Our sisterhood is comprised of women with a wide range of backgrounds, interests and aspirations.
Our organization values scholarship, service and philanthropy, in addition to sisterhood and leadership development in each of our members. We pride ourselves on our diverse sisterhood and each sister's contribution to our chapter and the greater Cornell community.

The Beginnings of Alpha Gamma Rho start in 1912 with the foundation of the Caduceus chapter at Cornell University. The founders were a close knit group of men dedicated to issues concerning agriculture. On December 19, 1914, Caduceus received a charter from Alpha Gamma Rho national and has Zeta Chapter ever since. The first AGR house sat at 409 Dryden Ave until 1916 when a new house was built at 203 Highland Ave, the present location of the house. Since 1914, Alpha Gamma Rho has been the home to over 1700 men. Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) is the national agricultural fraternity, with sixty two chapters across the United States. AGR boasts a rich tradition of close brotherhood, good times, and prides itself on its reputation of being a friendly fraternity. For over seventy years, Cornell's Zeta chapter has been the home for over 1800 members who have gone on to become leaders in many diverse fields. We feel that AGR is a close knit group of individuals because many of our brothers are closely associated with agriculture, which allows us to form incredibly strong bonds of friendship unparalleled in many fraternity experiences. However, a surprising number of our brothers are not from agricultural backgrounds, which contributes to our amazing diversity. Brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho are also extremely busy with organizations outside of the house such as philanthropies and community service, varsity and intramural sports, as well as the Cornell Inter-fraternity Council. Whether it means holding social events, or just hanging out together, we form friendships that last forever. In a place as big as Cornell University, it's nice to have a place to call home, a place where we call each other brothers and friends, and a place that makes our college years some of the most rewarding years of our lives. For us, we call this place Alpha Gamma Rho.

Purpose: To Make Better Men, and through them a broader and better agriculture by surrounding members with influences tending to encourage individual endeavor, resourcefulness, and aggressive effort along lines making for the development of better mental, social, moral, and physical qualities; to promote a wider acquaintance and a broader outlook on the part of agricultural men through fellowship in a national organization that stands for the best social, mental, and moral development.

Alpha Phi was the first American college sorority. It was founded at Syracuse University in 1872, where Alpha Chapter still exists. At its formation the sisterhood numbered ten women. One of these was Martha Foote Crowe, who later became Alpha Phi's first president. "Pursuing their studies in a thoroughly male-dominated environment, these women had a pressing need for friends who could sympathize with each other's problems and support each other's aspirations."(The Ivy Leaf) In addition, Alpha Phi organized the first interfraternity association, known today as the National Panhellenic Conference, in 1902 when they called the first successful inter-sorority meeting with Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, and Delta Delta Delta. Alpha Phi is now an international fraternity having over 140 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Alpha Phi has a membership of over 100,000 women and approximately 4,500 women pledge Alpha Phi every year. Objective/Aim of Sorority: At all times, it is our aim to consciously endeavor to promote the highest ideals of womanhood. In our effort to become more effective and contributing members of society, we shall strive for growth of character, intellectual development and excellence of scholarship, as well as to perfect our leadership capabilities. In all that we do, we shall encourage unity of feeling, sisterly affection, and social communion. We shall employ the principles of justice and right and give and receive mutual criticism in a spirit of love. As we search for truth and individual growth, we shall be mindful of our personal conduct. Our attitudes, beliefs and actions must in no way reflect a damaging influence on the image of our Chapter or Fraternity, or our sisters individually. We shall endeavor to represent the best in culture and refinement. We shall abide by the Constitution, Standing Rules and Collegiate Chapter Operations Manual of Alpha Phi International Fraternity. Cornell Chapter History: Delta Chapter's history begins with a visit by two Syracuse Alpha Phis in early 1889 for the purpose of beginning a chapter at Cornell. These visitors pledged four Cornell women who then pledged five more. In February 1889, Alpha initiated these nine women in a ceremony held at the Ithaca Hotel. Delta Chapter has been located in a number of places during its years of existence. First housed in Sage College, the chapter moved there in 1898. A house unit was tried from 1907-8 at 214 Eddy Street but failed as the sisters felt they lost interest in University affairs. The chapter remained in Sage College until 1917 when a shortage of housing forced University officials to request that organized groups find their own houses. Delta rented Alpha Zeta's house at 214 Thurston Ave. for the year 1917-8. 1918-1921 were spent at 114 Kelvin Place. In 1921, this house was sold necessitating a move. 411 Thurston, a house built by Amy Cooper Wurster (Alpha '91) was purchased and has remained the chapter house ever since. The original house, pictures of which may be seen in old Cornelians, was enlarged twice. Once in 1937, when the side wings were added and again in 1961, when the new wing was built.
Philanthropy: Since 1946, Alpha Phi has focused on heart disease and cardiac care as a philanthropic priority. Today, research into the diagnosis and treatment of women's heart disease in a special interest of the Alpha Phi Foundation. Gender differences in diagnosing and treating cardiac health problems are becoming widely recognized, and donors can make a difference for thousands of women through gifts to the Alpha Phi Foundation. The Foundation funds educational programming in the areas of alcohol and AIDS awareness, women's health and safety, and other Watch Care programs developed for Alpha Phi collegiate chapters. The Foundation also funds the educational training sessions at Convention and Leadership Conferences that help officers develop the skills necessary to assume strong leadership roles within their chapters, as well as in the future. Participants in Convention and Leadership Conferences learn new insights into building effective teams and improving relationships, which they, in turn, use to enhance their chapters. The Foundation also supports women in all stages of their education. Undergraduate and graduate scholarships are awarded to Alpha Phi collegians and alumnae every year. Nontraditional educational scholarships are also available to Alpha Phi women who need additional course work for certification, career advancement or to reenter the work force.

Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American Men, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood among African descendants in this country. The visionary founders, known as the "Jewels" of the fraternity, are Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy.

Iota Chapter at Cornell was founded on March 27, 1909, by a group of ten undergraduates. The new fraternity prospered, and in 1913 it moved to its current location teetering over the edge of Fall Creek Gorge. The west wing containing 15 single rooms and the north wing, with expanded dining and social facilities, were added in 1924. Major improvements have been made to Rockledge Estate regularly. Alpha Sig has made and continues to make distinctive contributions to the Cornell community. Andrew Dickson White, the first president of and co-founder of Cornell, was initiated into the fraternity at Yale in 1850. He served as the fraternity's national president from 1913 to 1915 and helped found the chapter at Cornell. Other distinctive alumni include past and current deans of the Agriculture, Hotel, and Veterinary colleges at Cornell, and presidents of major corporate firms.

Alpha Xi Delta was founded in 1893 by ten young women at Lombard College, Galesburg, Illinois, who shared a vision and a dream of a national organization dedicated to the personal growth of women. One of the oldest women's fraternities, Alpha Xi Delta is proud of its rich history. As one of the ten founding fraternities of the National Panhellenic Conference, it was Alpha Xi Delta's first NPC Chairman who wrote the Panhellenic Creed, which is still recited on college campuses today. Since that time more than a 100 years ago, the spirit of Alpha Xi Delta has enriched the lives of thousands of women throughout the world with its emphasis on lifelong learning and lasting friendship. Now a national fraternity with more than 120,000 initiated members, Alpha Xi Delta has grown into a progressive and forward-thinking organization with college chapters and alumnae associations throughout the United States. The ideals envisioned by our Founders are timeless and have remained constant throughout the years, inspiring pride in each member to pursue individual excellence. Our Founders left us a great legacy--they taught us the value of education because it would free us to achieve our goals and give us the power to be whatever we choose to be. They taught us to support one another through shared experiences and understanding. They taught us to serve others--to reach out to those less fortunate to make their lives better. Delta Chi was founded as a law fraternity on October 13th, 1890 at Cornell University. In 1922, a collective body of members decided to register Delta Chi as a general fraternity, thereby opening membership to men of any academic discipline. In 1929, Delta Chi became the first fraternity to abolish the hazing practices associated with "hell week." Since that time, Delta Chi has evolved into an international organization, now including 120 chapters and colonies, and over 90,000 members worldwide.

Delta Delta Delta Fraternity, founded in 1888 at Boston University, began as an organization concerned with the growth and development of college women and has evolved into a leader among sororities.
The Alpha Beta Chapter was founded at Cornell University in 1913 and celebrates nearly 100 years of history in Ithaca, New York. Beginning with only a handful of members in 1913, the Alpha Beta Chapter now boasts over 130 active collegiate members, as well as a strong alumnae presence.
Among the active members there are many leaders, academic achievements to record, and many inspirational examples of personal growth. Most importantly, in the Alpha Beta Chapter, each sister is guided by and promises to live in accordance with Delta Delta Delta's national motto of sisterhood: "Let Us Steadfastly Love One Another."

Delta Gamma offers to women of all ages a rich heritage based on principles of personal integrity, personal responsibility and intellectual honesty. Its primary purpose is to foster high ideals of friendship, promote educational and cultural interests, create a true sense of social responsibility, and develop the finest qualities of character.
Our chapter is made up of over 125 incredibly talented, diverse, and intelligent women, and every unique woman serves as an inspiration to me on a daily basis. Cornell Delta Gammas are involved all over campus. From writing for the Cornell Daily Sun, to competing on varsity sports teams and holding leadership positions throughout the Cornell community, our sisters are extremely active on Cornell's campus. It is no surprise that Cornell Delta Gammas obtain some of the most competitive jobs and internships every year.
Despite how busy we all are, one common thread that links us all is our passion to "do good." This is our motto, and we accomplish this every year through our service initiatives. Our members give their time and talent to raise money for our philanthropy, Service for Sight. Through these efforts, as well as throughout our daily lives, we fulfill our primary purpose, set by our founders in 1873: "We encourage an atmosphere which will foster high ideals of friendship among college women, promote their educational and cultural interests, create in them a true sense of social responsibility and develop in them the best qualities of character."

Literature: Since its founding over 180 years ago, members of Delta Phi have placed a strong emphasis on intellectual vigor and personal leadership. As a brotherhood we seek men of talent who will benefit from joining our organization. Our brotherhood is dedicated to encouraging and enabling the diverse talents of each member while undergraduates and throughout their lives and careers.

The history of Delta Tau Delta at Cornell began in January 1889, with the initiation of twelve young men into the newly formed Beta Omicron chapter. From that day forward, Delt has been a constant presence in Ithaca, and is the oldest continuously chartered fraternity at Cornell. More than 1,500 Cornellians have been initiated and had their lives enriched by this chapter. Our shelters, the original at 110 Edgemore Lane and the current at 104 Mary Anne Wood Dr, have served as housing for generations of men. More than simply housing, however, the Shelter is a perpetual home for all Delts, from the undergraduates who live here to the alumni who return each year for Homecoming festivities. The bond of brotherhood established within stretches across the years, uniting graduates from the Class of '09 with those from the Class of '49. It connects rising sophomores with men such as Willard Dickerman Straight, who served as Beta Omicron chapter president, and Jim Casey, who founded Cayuga's Waiters in 1949. The Delt experience at Cornell offers a unique link to the university's history, and an exemplary path for any young man's future.

Kappa Alpha Theta was founded at Cornell in 1881 and was the first female fraternity. Iota left the Cornell campus in 1965 after a policy disagreement with the Kappa Alpha Theta headquarters' administration. In 1980, Iota returned to Cornell as the national office realized the demand for a chapter at Cornell. One of Iota's most famous alumnae is Anna Botsford Comstock, for which Comstock Hall is named after.

The Omega Chi Chapter of Kappa Delta received its charter in the spring of 1917, becoming the 21st chapter in the national sorority. In 1928, Kappa Delta moved into its first house and current residence at 109 Triphammer Rd. KD is one of three Cornell sororities that still own their original properties. The Omega Chi Chapter of Kappa Delta left Cornell's campus on October 21, 1969 when the entire house deactivated in protest of KD national's refusal to allow Jewish sisters as members. The house was reinstated in May of 1975 after a change in Kappa Delta policy.
Today, the Omega Chi Chapter of Kappa Delta is thriving at Cornell. We are an organization of over 100 diverse, intelligent, talented and strong women. We know that our chapter has helped Kappa Delta become something far beyond what even the Founders dreamed.

On May 24, 1913, Harold A. Severy, an alumnus of the Middlebury chapter doing graduate study here at Cornell University, founded KDR's second chapter. The original twenty-three members of Beta chapter made their home at the local YMCA, and the chapter remained active until the first World War, when it closed temporarily. Beta chapter was refounded in 1920 and moved to 306 Highland Road (next door to our present address). The house continued to grow throughout the 1920s and was a strong athletic fraternity during the 1930s, winning, perhaps for the last time in history, Cornell's all-sports trophy in 1935. The chapter closed again (as did all Kappa Delta Rho chapters) for the second World War, and was refounded by local alumni in the spring of 1950. In 1952 we moved into our current address at 312 Highland Road, and in 1964, a new wing including a kitchen, a dining room, and several new study rooms was added to keep up with the increasing needs of the brotherhood. The house itself has an interesting history as well. It was built in 1909 as an experiment by Cornell University's architecture school - all the outside walls of the original structure are made entirely of poured cement.

In the fall of 1883, five women at Cornell University applied to Kappa Kappa Gamma for a charter and became Psi chapter three weeks later. They joined a strong and successful Greek system which was stated by a Psi historian to be "deeply imbedded in Cornell, both for men and women." In 1921, the chapter raised enough funds to buy a house at 508 Thurston Avenue which is still the same location of the sorority house today.
Since the beginning days, Psi chapter has upheld very high ideals, both for themselves and for their community. In 1961, the Dean of Students said of Psi, "The women of Psi chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma have made the Panhellenic Creed a living reality on our campus and the student community has profited from their positive leadership." This leadership continues today as evidenced by the many Greek awards and recognition that Psi chapter receives each year. The women of Psi chapter have also taken their leadership skills beyond college with their extensive amount of Kappa Achievement Alumnae Awards.
Each year, during spring rush, it has been the hope of every sister that new pledges are chosen that will be as faithful and enthusiastic to carry out the ideals of Psi chapter that were established in 1883 and since upheld.

Fourteen visionary men founded La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated on February 19, 1982 at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Their Hermandad takes a role in meeting the needs of the Latino community through cultural awareness, community service, and the promotion of Latino culture and its diverse peoples. La Unidad Latina maintains a firm commitment to empower and enrich every community wherein one finds Latinidad. To this end, our Fraternidad addresses key areas of concern to the Latino community. Primarily, we concentrate on academic achievement, community service, and cultural awareness. La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated is looking for individuals with vision. Following our foundation, we sought to affiliate ourselves with men who exemplify determination, pride, merit, creativity, focus and commitment to accomplish the goals we had set for ourselves. The passion of our Hermandad helps to bring the many historical Latino accomplishments to this nation's forefront and provide the tools necessary to achieve higher education.

Hermanos share a commitment to our values and work together to develop our respective chapter, regional, and national communities into mature, intelligent, socially active, and culturally conscious groups of people. Hermanos support each other, and their communities, to excel academically and professionally. The fraternity confronts society's shortcomings in meeting and addressing the educational needs of Latinos. Our Hermandad plans and sponsors academic programs: these programs aid in the retention, guidance and improvement of Latino academics. Whereas our Hermandad prioritizes academic achievement Hermanos of La Unidad Latina work diligently toward increasing the representation of Latino faculty, and students, within higher education. Realizing that recruitment is only half of the solution, we know that reaching out to our community is the first step.
