About Us

The Nineteenth Century American Reading Group aims to provide Cornell graduate students with a casual but scholarly setting in which to read and discuss key texts--ranging from primary documents, to important literary works, to current critical appraisals of the period--from the long Nineteenth Century in the United States. The group is re-established to accommodate the interests of current graduate students, to encourage others to work in nineteenth-century American Studies, and to encourage interdisciplinary approaches to that field.
