Our Mission
Y.O.U.R.S. partners with OURS, a 4-H program of Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Tompkins County, to provide mentorship and fun learning opportunities for underserved youth in Dryden, New York.
YOURS is currently undergoing a period of transition as the program is undergoing reformation. For Fall 2025, YOURS will be focusing on remote activities such as brainstorming and creating kits to send to families in Dryden, NY to help enrich their learning and development. Hopefully by Spring 2026, the new iteration of YOURS will take place at Dryden Elementary School where YOURS will provide year-round mentoring and volunteering for weekly programs.
Previously, YOURS provided mentorship and after-school programming for children aged 7 to 17 living in mobile home parks in Dryden, NY. YOURS volunteers worked with the children who attended our program to develop healthy life-skills, self-esteem, leadership skills, and individual goals.
Each volunteer attended at least one of three weekly programs: Monday Makers, Tech Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, or Thursday for the Earth. On Mondays, volunteers emphasized hands-on activities; they worked one-on-one with the children to create a craft or science project that they can take home. On Tuesdays, volunteers worked with youth on an ongoing science project presented to the group at the end of the semester. On Wednesdays, volunteers engaged in fun, health-focused activities with the children, such as cooking, arts and crafts, and fitness programs. On Thursdays, volunteers worked with youth to build awareness of environmental issues and implement skills for conservation.
