BEI Interest Form
Thank you to everyone who visited our virtual ClubFest booth. My name is Brandon Axelrod and I am proud to serve as BEI's president.
Our committment to volunteering this semester is especially important. Restrictions put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 have prohibited in-person visits to nursing homes, leaving senior citizens isolated. One of the most exciting aspects of the Brain Exercise Initiative is the dual functionality of our programming – not only can we improve the memory and recall of senior citizens with Alzheimer's, but we can brighten their days through the formation of meaningful, intergenerational relationships.
While the details are still up in the air, this semester's volunteering would consist of running simple exercises of arithmetic, reading and writing over Zoom, Facetime, Skype, phone, etc. You have the flexibility in deciding how frequently you would like to volunteer, from one to five days a week, for around ~30-45 minutes. Once the volunteer schedule is finalized, we ask that you remain consistent in your weekly commitment throughout the semester.

If there are any additional questions I can answer for you, please let me know. I will have information on the start date for the semester in the coming weeks.
As a final note, please contact me (bha36) if you have prior experience working in a nursing home and maintain a good relationship with their full-time staff. Because of the overwhelming interest in BEI, and for the fact that we can operate remotely, we are looking for additional homes to conduct our exercises with. It does not matter where in the country the home is located.
