THE DONLON JOURNAL -- December 14 2022

Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo╠▒hó:ný╔ü (the Cayuga Nation). The Gayogo╠▒hó:ný╔ü are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign Nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. The Confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell University, New York state, and the United States of America. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo╠▒hó:ný╔ü dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo╠▒hó:ný╔ü people, past and present, to these lands and waters.

This land acknowledgment has been reviewed and approved by the traditional Gayogo╠▒hó:ný╔ü leadership.

In addition to the Gayogo╠▒hó:ný╔ü land acknowledgment but separate from it, the AIISP faculty would like to emphasize: Cornell's founding was enabled in the course of a national genocide by the sale of almost one million acres of stolen Indian land under the Morrill Act of 1862. To date the university has neither officially acknowledged its complicity in this theft nor has it offered any form of restitution to the hundreds of Native communities impacted. For additional information, see the Cornell University and Indigenous Dispossession website here.

Housing Selection!!!

The General Room Selection process for 2023-2024 housing begins in January 2023. Most current undergraduate students select their on-campus rooms – and roommate(s) or blockmates – for the following year through the General Room Selection process that takes place at the beginning of each spring semester. Students sign up online for housing to receive their randomly generated General Room Selection timeslot. During their timeslot, students log in to the Housing Portal to select their room and sign their housing license.

2023-2024 General Room Selection Application

All students who are required to or would like to live on campus for 2023-2024 must submit a 2023-2024 General Room Selection Application via the housing portal.

Rising Sophomore and Spring Transfers can fulfill the second year of the residential requirement by living in University-approved qualified second-year housing (sorority, fraternity, and approved affiliated housing). The Office of Housing & Residential Life will receive rosters from the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life to ensure compliance with the residential requirement.

Rising Sophomore and Spring Transfer students who wish to be exempt from the second-year residential requirement for the 2023-2024 academic year must submit and Individual exemption request via the housing portal by 11:59pm on February 28, 2023.

Continued Occupancy on West Campus - Continued Occupancy (CO) is the process by which a select number of current West Campus residents can return to their House the following year. The process looks slightly different in each community. Additionally, each House hosts Active Citizens (Rose Scholars in Rose House) who apply to be engaged returning citizens of the community and are guaranteed housing in their community for the following year.  Except for Rose House, after Active Citizens have been assigned, the remaining beds are available for residents to select through an in-house lottery process.
