Important Announcements ƒöê

  • Did you know that not everything with a recycling symbol can be recycled in Ithaca? In Ithaca, plastic containers with a number 1, 2, or 5 inside the recycling symbol are able to be recycled. You can also put cardboard boxes, paper, glass containers, metal cans, foil, and paper milk, and juice cartons in the recylcing bin. However, plastics with the numbers 3, 4, 6, and 7 or any unmarked plastic items are not recyclable. Plastic bags, sytrofoam, and paper cups are other commonly mistaken items that in Ithaca must be thrown in the trash. For more information, see the Recycle Tompkins website.
  • ÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïReminder about personal items in bathrooms/kitchens: As a reminder, please don't leave personal items in the shower/bathtub/on the counter by the sink in the bathroom in your suite. Utilizie the cubbies by the door if you need to hang things, so that the Building Care staff are able to properly and efficiently santiize the showers without having to move your items. This also goes for the kitchen! Please keep personal items on the shelves, not on the counters if at all possible. Help us help you!

More information about the Residential Student Congress

  • The Residential Student Congress (RSC) is a campus-wide group that aims to promote community among the residential population, advocate for the needs of residential students and liaise with university administrators who directly impact the residential experience.
  • Furthermore, RSC encompasses a unique consortium of Community Councils, which individually unite students in a particular residential community by planning engaging events, fostering a sense of community and most of all, serving as advocates, representatives and leaders. RSC encourages inter-community collaboration between the councils to help plan events and share ideas for maximum student involvement.
  • Past RSC members have utilized their experiences to serve as Resident Advisors later on, take on leadership roles in different student organizations (the 2018-2019 president was also the SA president!) and secure internships.
Please email brr57@cornell.edu with any interest or questions!

HILC Culture Night Interest Form

Culture Night events have a history in HILC, and we want to continue the amazing tradition. We would love for people to come and share more about their culture/country/background with the HILC community! You don't have to be international in order to host a culture night, as long as you have something you're interested in sharing we would love to work with you.

Culture Night events will take place virtually, on a Friday evening (though exact time is variable based on the availability of presenters). Our staff can advise you in creating a short presentation with whatever information you'd like to share about your culture--whether that be language, customs, history, food, fashion, or more.

Please share your thoughts if you'd like to host a Culture Night and our staff will be in touch to help coordinate!

NOTE: By signing up on this interest form, you are not fully committing to hosting just yet. You can always decide to wait/not host after filling out the form, if you prefer.
