Ever catch yourself saying phrases like “Did I stutter?” or “That’s crazy” without a second thought? These expressions are examples of casual ableism: everyday, often unintentional language, behaviors, and assumptions that marginalize, stereotype, or devalue people with disabilities.
On Friday, January 23 at 5pm, join us in Rockefeller 102 for Language Matters: Casual Ableism, an intentional and engaging conversation about how the words we use shape our environments and impact others more than we may realize. We’lll unpack harmful language embedded in our everyday vernacular, explore where it comes from, and discuss ways to be more mindful, inclusive, and accountable in our communication!
