“Throughlines and Transcendence”: This hour-long recital presents a clutch of unusual, virtuosic, Bach-inspired works by Ferruccio Busoni (his scintillating Toccata, a cult favorite), Gabriel Pierné, and Dmitri Shostakovich (his second sonata). The program also includes contemporary works drawing from social protest movements by the British composer Hannah Kendall and Australian composer Liza Lim (an East Coast premiere), both of whom have worked closely with the pianist.
