It's almost time for the ChEGSA General election on Wednesday May 14th in Olin 128 at 12:00PM.
Nominations are open until end of the day, Monday May 12th. We will have food for the event!
The ChEGSA board is accepting nominations for class reps (2nd year MS, 2nd year PhD, 3rd year PhD, 4th year PhD, 5th year PhD, 6+ year PhD, and Post-doc), and for officer positions (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Social Chair, Professional Development Chair and Symposium Chair).
If you want to get a feeling for what we do or ask any questions, please join one of our board meetings every Friday at 10 a.m. in Olin 346.
Even if you're not running, please join us to see the process and have your input on next year's leadership.

Please nominate yourself or anyone you think would be a good fit. For those nominated to an officer position, please provide a written statement (max. 200 words) expressing your interest for the position on the day of the election.
If you are nominated, you will be informed of what roles you were nominated for via email, so keep an eye out the evening of 05/12.
Below describe the duties for each officer position and class representatives. Names and emails of the current officers are listed with the position. Please don't hesitate to reach out to any of us if you have questions!
Class representatives
Be responsible for communicating the views/requests of their class to the ChEGSA board during board meetings;
Vote for positions on the Executive Council;
Coordinate activities and execute the business and policies of ChEGSA between meetings;
Participate in a specialized role within the ChEGSA board, as defined in Article IV;
Provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned.
President (current: Spencer Sabatino, sjs433@cornell.edu)
Ensure that ChEGSA’s activities and members follow all Cornell University policies.
Represent ChEGSA before the public and preside at meetings of ChEGSA and its Executive Council;
Be an authorized signatory on all ChEGSA accounts;
Oversee all ChEGSA initiatives and provide support to the Executive Council;
Transition in the incoming President;
Lead the Selection Committee for the Hooey Award;
Chair all general membership and executive council meetings;
Perform other duties normally associated with the office of President or as may be assigned by the Executive Council or the governance documents.
Vice President (current: Alex Gonzalez, avg52@cornell.edu)
Ensure that all of ChEGSA’s activities and members follow all Cornell University policies.
Organize and schedule outreach and charity events;
Assume the duties of the President, as outlined in the preceding section, if the President is temporarily unable to serve for a meeting, event, or other purpose;
Perform other duties normally associated with the office of Vice President or as may be assigned by the Executive Council or the governance documents.
Secretary (current: Dharani Prasad Vadlamudi, dv235@cornell.edu)
Coordinate the communicative functions of ChEGSA;
Maintain the records of the general assembly and board meetings in the form of meeting minutes;
Carry out communication with the department unless otherwise decided by the Executive Council;
Perform other duties normally associated with the office of Secretary or as may be assigned by the President, the Executive Council, or the governance documents.
The Secretary will assume the role of Vice President as outlined in the preceding section if the Vice President is temporarily unable to serve for a meeting, event, or other purpose.
Treasurer (current: Shikhar Singh, ss3394@cornell.edu)
Be responsible for the collection, distribution, and safekeeping of section funds;
Collaborate with the President, Executive Council, and any staff/faculty, as needed, to prepare a budget for each academic year;
Prepare, maintain, and report as directed on the financial position of the ChEGSA in relation to the approved budget;
Submit all required financial documentation for events, such as that for Graduate and Professional Student Assembly Finance Commission (GPSAFC)
Perform other duties normally associated with the office of Treasurer or as may be assigned by the President, the Executive Council, or the governance documents.
The Treasurer will assume the role of Secretary as outlined in the preceding section if the Vice President is temporarily unable to serve for a meeting, event, or other purpose;
Social Chair (current: Eric Wu, iw63@cornell.edu)
Be responsible for the organization of social events and department intramural teams;
Maintain accurate records of ChEGSA’s membership and participation in events of each member.
Manage and maintain ChEGSA social media (website, Instagram, etc);
Perform other duties normally associated with the office of Social Chair or as may be assigned by the President, the Executive Council, or the governance documents.
The Social Chair will assume the role of Secretary as outlined in the preceding section if the Secretary is temporarily unable to serve for a meeting, event, or other purpose.
Professional Development Chair (current: Julia Donlevie, jed299@cornell.edu)
Serve as the official liaison between ChEGSA and the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Industrial Council (CBEIC);
Serve as the graduate student representative on the CBEIC board;
Attend the annual CBEIC board meeting and convey the needs, accomplishments, position, and desires of ChEGSA toward industrial collaborations;
Organize and schedule professional development events;
Collaborate with the Executive Council and industrial partners to foster a strong relationship between ChEGSA/CBE and relevant partners.
Perform duties normally associated with the officer of Professional Developent Chair or may be delegated by the Executive Council or other governance documents.
Symposium Chair (current: Dharani Prasad Vadlamudi, dv235@cornell.edu)
Be responsible for the direct leadership of the CBE Graduate Student Symposium;
Interface and maintain relations with industry contact/connections;
Form the Symposium Committee, consisting of graduate students and coordinating with CBE faculty and staff.
Give regular updates to the President and Executive Council.
