The Area Coordinator is a live-in professional staff person who resides on South Campus. The Area Coordinator is responsible for the long range planning, as well as day-to-day operations of the buildings/communities on South Campus, and is the liaisons to parents, Collegetown businesses, organizations, Housing & Residential Life, Campus & Community Engagement, Student & Campus Life, and Cornell University.
The RHD is a live-in professional staff person who resides on South Campus. The RHD is responsible for the long range planning, as well as day-to-day operations of the buildings/communities on South Campus, and is the liaisons to parents, Student & Campus Life, and Cornell University. The South Campus RHD will provide leadership for the EEC (social justice house), Veterans House, 109 McGraw Place and 118 McGraw Place
The GRA (formerly known as an Assistant Residence Hall Director) is also a live-in graduate student staff member who is on staff and provide additional support in programming, advising and South Campus staff members. The GRA has also been trained extensively in working in undergraduate residence halls, in areas including educational programming, counseling, referrals, and crisis management. The GRA will provide leadership for the Schuyler House.
The SRAs also are live-in student staff members with at least one year of RA experience who are on staff and provide additional support in programming, advising and mentoring newer staff members. The SRAs have also been trained extensively in working in undergraduate residence halls, in areas including educational programming, counseling, referrals, and crisis management. The SRAs provide leadership for our collegetown area of South Campus and the upper geographical portion of South Campus.
The RAs are live-in student staff members who have been trained extensively in working in undergraduate residence halls, in areas including educational programming, counseling, referrals, and crisis management. With 1001 residents, South Campus has 26 RAs, and you may go to any of them if you have questions or problems. There is an RA on call every night of the week and on the weekends to respond to any emergencies in our buildings. The RAs will be some of the first people you meet upon moving into the buildings in the South Campus community. They are here because they care about you and want your experience to be as successful and positive as possible.
VERNON MILLER (Area Coordinator)
Vernon Miller is a member of the Thunder Clan from the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska & Iowa. He received his B.S. in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska and his M.S. in Counseling & Student Development from Kansas State University. Prior to joining Housing & Residential Life at Cornell, Vernon was a High School Business Teacher, recently served as the Omaha Tribal Chairman, and President of the Omaha Nation Public Schools Board of Education on the Omaha Indian Reservation. Vernon also served as a National Racial Equity & Healing Fellow with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, an Americans for Indian Opportunity Ambassador, and a Fellow with the New Leader's Council: Omaha Chapter. Vernon was a Head Resident for Cornell's Summer College in 2018. Mr. Miller was the Assistant Director for Cornell's PSP Summer Program in 2021. JESS CHERRY (Residence Hall Director)
Jess Cherry (she/her/hers) is originally from Western New York. She received her A.A.S. in Criminal Justice from Genesee Community College, then went on to finish her B.S. in Criminal Justice from SUNY Brockport. Jess recently graduated from Stony Brook University's Higher Education Administration online graduate program, in May 2020, and received her M.A. Prior to joining Housing & Residential Life at Cornell, she spent two years working as a Resident Director at SUNY Brockport and one year working in an Office of Mental Health Residential Treatment Facility for teenagers with high-risk mental illnesses. Jess is very passionate about inclusive excellence and the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and social justice. As a member of multiple historically excluded communities, she strives to uphold these principles throughout all of her work and to educate others about them whenever possible. Jess is thrilled to join the South Campus community and provide exceptional student support services, as well as build relationships with students, staff, and faculty at Cornell. I am excited to be the graduate resident advisor for Schuyler House this year! I am a second year PhD student in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department. My research interests are in characterizing different failure modes in materials. I am looking forward to connecting with the broader Cornell community and getting to know the campus and surrounding Ithaca area better!

Hey everyone! My name is Alex Woo and I’m from Glenview, Illinois. I’m a senior studying Human Biology, Health, and Society. On campus, I serve as the president of the Class of 2022 Class Councils, TA for General Chemistry, (CHEM 2070), and work in the Leifer Lab. Hello, my name is Thomas! I’m a first-year graduate student studying Management at the SC Johnson College of Business. I went to Cornell for undergrad and studied Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) with minors in Business and Law & Society. On campus, I volunteer for the Cornell Red Cross and I am a Senior Editor for a labor journal. I was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida, and in my free time, I enjoy biking, taking long walks, canoeing, and anything else that includes being outdoors!

I am a Senior studying Human Development in the school of Human Ecology. I am from Brooklyn and am of Spanish and Caribbean descent (father from Spain and mother from Guyana). My on-campus activities including being part of P3 (Pre-professional program), President of Kappa Xi Chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated, XAE (Chi Alpha Epsilon) Honor Society member, a RA for Cascadilla Hall, and a Human Ecology Ambassador. In my free time, I like to listen to music (mainly rap and hip-hop), DJ, play sports, play video games, watch TV, hang out with friends, and watch movies. Outside of school, I work as a paraprofessional educator. This past summer I worked in New York City REC centers, aiding first responder children making sure they ate, attended online classes, and were provided an environment that allowed them to have fun while following COVID guidelines. Currently, I am looking into pursuing a career in clinical psychology or organizational/industrial psychology.

Hello, I am Greg Brumberg, a Senior from Boston, Massachusetts. I study Chemical Engineering and Mandarin. I hope to one day combine the two to work on large-scale global environmental solutions. Between classes and studying, I like to rock climb, run, and cook. Despite being from the Northeast, I still find Ithaca very cold. Bundling up with layers and dressing like an onion is the key to success here at Cornell. A main reason for why I came to Cornell is the outdoors. I enjoy the walk across the bridge to the Engineering Quad every day because it is an opportunity to marvel at the gorges and waterfalls around campus. Cornell is filled with these natural wonders, and I look forward to showing them to my residents as an RA!
