Improvisation, intimacy, movement, exchange, and cultural encounter converge in a musical world often described—perhaps too narrowly—as “early nineteenth-century Viennese.” But what does “Viennese” truly mean here? Perhaps it identifies less a single musical identity than the place where many identities met, mingled, and transformed one another. 

This recital offers a glimpse into that world through music by Jan Václav Hugo Voříšek, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Jan Ladislav Dussek. Their works bring together lyrical intimacy, wit, and formal invention, often assuming the character of private confessions: brief pages from a diary, fleeting musical scenes, or improvisations captured in written form. 

Voříšek’s impromptus frame the program. Unfolding like spontaneous reflections, they reveal a lyricism shaped by the meeting of different musical cultures, becoming the lens through which we hear anew the expressive depth, brevity, simplicity, and irony of Beethoven’s Bagatelles, Op. 33, as well as the imaginative freedom and contrapuntal rigor of Dussek’s Fantasia and Fugue in F Minor, Op. 55. 

What emerges is not the expression of a single, exclusive identity, but the record of encounters: music as a private space made public, and Vienna as the setting in which different journeys, migrations, memories, and imaginations briefly—and decisively—converge.
