Mozart in France: Theatrical and Pictorial Contexts

Step back into eighteenth-century Paris for an immersive afternoon of musical performance, art, and dance inspired by Mozart’s playful 1778 ballet-pantomime, Les petits riens (The Little Nothings), as French artworks from the Johnson Museum bring the era’s world of theater, flirtation, and spectacle to vivid life.

Hear from Andrew C. Weislogel, the Museum’s Seymour R. Askin, Jr. ’47 Curator, Earlier European and American Art; French Baroque music and dance expert Rebecca Harris-Warrick; and pianist and piano scholar Patricia Garcia Gil as they connect the visual art, history, and music of the era in the Robinson Lecture Hall on Floor 2L.

At 1:30PM, this program will be followed by a historical dance workshop in the Lynch Conference Room on Floor 6 led by Julia Bengtsson of the New York Baroque Dance Company, accompanied by students from the Cornell Symphony Orchestra. No experience is required to participate.
