BBMTA of Cornell University is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving underrepresented students interested in pursuing health-related careers. The organization provides underrepresented students with a community and resources to succeed as pre-health undergraduate students. BBMTA hosts general body meetings where students obtain academic support, professional development skills and awareness of health-related issues. Through our annual health career conference composed of panels and workshops, we expose students to a range of health professionals and give students the opportunity to engage with those already established in the medical field. BBMTA extends its mission into the Ithaca community beyond Cornell through commitment to various service projects and youth mentorship.

- Brain Exercise Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on preventing memory loss through brain exercise.
- Pioneered by neuroscientist Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, it has been found that doing simple math and reading aloud for just 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week, caused marked improvements for those with Alzheimer's. Most showed improvements in cognitive function as tested by Mini Mental State Examinations (MMSE) and Frontal Assessment Batteries (FAB). Many began to feel happier and improvements in communication and cognition were recorded. Near miraculous case studies were also observed. For example, an individual who was previously bedridden began to walk again after completing these exercises for six months. Some patients showed improvements in bowel movement. The gentle mental activities Dr. Kawashima used activated the prefrontal cortex, the control center for memory, cognition and planning. These activities are currently being done in over 1400 care centers with over 15,000 patients in Japan. Drawing from the research conducted in Japan, we are inspired to create an intergenerational nonprofit in which university students would hold brain exercise programs at retirement homes. We creates daily packets which include simple math, writing and "read-alouds" that are completed by each individual with the guidance of university students. Several retirement homes have integrated the program into their center and chapters are currently being founded at different universities.

Not only does the Brain Exercise Initiative hope to improve the memory of those suffering from Alzheimer's but we also create an invaluable, all-too-rare avenue for intergenerational service, discussion, and collaboration.

Cornell University Emergency Medical Service (CUEMS) strives to provide professional,
efficient, and effective first-response basic life support care to the Ithaca campus and
surrounding areas. Serving Cornell students, faculty, staff, visitors, and their families,
CUEMS responds to all 911 calls for medical assistance twenty-four hours a day, seven
days per week during the academic year. CUEMS provides extensive, weekly training to
all squad members consisting of New York State certified emergency medical
technicians. Moreover, CUEMS offers training to the entire Cornell community in
cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillation, first aid, and activation
of emergency medical services. Working together with other emergency services from
Cornell University and Tompkins County, CUEMS provides a valuable resource to the
Ithaca campus and much of the surrounding Tompkins County community.

GlobeMed is a student-run nonprofit that creates long-term partnerships between university chapters and grassroots health organizations in developing countries to strengthen the movement for global health and social justice.

Founded in the fall of 2010, GlobeMed at Cornell University is a sustainable global health organization that partners with a AMMID, Asociacion Maya-Mam de Investigacion y Desarrollo, in Comitancillo, San Marcos, Guatemala. Our projects take a holistic health approach, including environmental and nutritional implications and influence on locals' health.

Our chapter has about 30 active staff members and is managed by an executive board. We, the chapter members, work together with AMMID to implement long-term initiatives to better the health community members in Comitancillo.

Throughout the year GlobeMed at Cornell hosts educational events on campus, raises funds for our projects with AMMID, works on-site in Guatemala through organized internships during winter or summer breaks, learns to think critically about global health, and trains passionate leaders committed to realizing a world with equity in health.

Mission
This group will provide resources and support for transgender and gender diverse individuals at Cornell University through the medical* and social transition process. We will focus on all aspects of transitioning including beginning the transition process, identifying resources for various aspects of transitioning, and navigating the academic and professional environment as a gender diverse individual. We hope to provide community and resources to our group members. These resources will be presented in part by medical, legal, and other experts.

Mission
VIDA promotes the awareness and understanding of veterinary medicine in developing areas. Whether it be production, conservation, basic pet health or public health, we aim to host lectures and events which will make our community more aware of the opportunities and challenges that arise when working in abroad. Hopefully we will inspire members of each incoming veterinary class to undertake international endeavors of their own, and we support talks given by those students who have had such experiences.

Mission
Our mission is to provide a gateway for Cornell pre-medical undergraduates to gain exposure to the medical field by pairing students with a Weill Cornell medical student mentor and organizing events that include trips to the Weill Cornell campus in NYC.

The broader vision of WIN is to bridge the geographical divide between the two campuses, thereby facilitating greater intercampus dialogue and collaboration at the student level. Distance should not become a significant obstacle for students' academic and professional growth. We hope to expand to include Physicians Assistants and PhD mentorship programs with Weill Cornell in the future.

Women's Higher Education Now (WHEN) is a student organization that explores the intersectionality of issues related to gender equality, sustainable development, and equitable education on the global stage. WHEN is affiliated with and fundraises for the Asian University for Women, an international university located in Chittagong, Bangladesh that provides higher education to women from underserved communities in Asia.
