Details

Despite their increasing presence in the collegiate environment, nontraditional students (NTS) are often overlooked and misunderstood, especially at the graduate level, with universities primarily catering to the needs of traditional students and lacking NTS support services. The definition of an NTS may vary, but a generally agreed upon definition is that a NTS is 25 years or older. This definition is inclusive of students who may be parents, military service members, employed full-time, and/or financially independent. As we march towards a more inclusive environment within veterinary medicine, it is vital to support nontraditional veterinary students (NTVS). Thus, this program and initiative aims to create a sustainable support network. To assess the needs and wants of NTVS, I wish to host a Spring Townhall where NTVS can express how they wish to be supported during their tenure and what they would like to see from this initiative/program.
