You've seen the memes and you've heard - or maybe even told - the story:
If I won't work 24 hours a day, someone else will. I'll get lower grades, worse internships, and fewer opportunities. This is just how it is. Nobody likes it, but we don't have a choice.

What if you did have a choice?

Balancing the academic, health, and social aspects of life is difficult. When we add in unreasonable expectations and an unrealistic picture of what "success" looks like, it's easy to focus on one area and forget the rest.
Balance Festival is about exploring your current choices and whether they're working for you, what alternatives you have, and what resources are available to help you choose what you need.

Start your weekend with a meditation and mindfulness workshop led by Dickson Faculty In Residence Connie Yuan.
No previous experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome to join. Dress comfortably and come as you are!

Balance Lounge

To give you even more options to choose what you need, we're adding Balance Lounge to this year's lineup of events!
Hosted by RHDs Cliff-Simon Vital (Mary Donlon Hall) and Lauren Feldman (Court-Kay-Bauer), Balance Lounge is a space to take some time for yourself. Make a self-care kit (all supplies provided), chat with members of the North Campus community, reflect on how you're balancing the academic/social/wellness aspects of your life, or just relax between Balance Festival events.
You're welcome to drop in between 11 AM and 5 PM and you can stay for as long as you like.

In this panel discussion, faculty members Lori Leonard (Mews/Loving House Faculty in Residence and Department of Global Communications), Jed Sparks (Donlon Faculty In Residence and Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), and Stephanie Thomas (Low Rises 6&7 Faculty In Residence, Department of Economics) share their stories of setbacks in personal and professional settings and how they moved forward.

In this facilitated discussion, young alumni from various disciplines (finance, tech, nonprofit, etc.) share their thoughts on what you need, what you don't, and the undergraduate experiences that have served them the most in their careers and in their lives in general.

Join Faculty In Residence for an informal dinner and conversation with some Cornell Alumni.
We'll meet up in the Tatkon Center RPCC 103 and walk across the courtyard to Morrison Dining Hall.
Registration is required, and participation is limited to 10 students to ensure a good discussion.
*Students are responsible for the cost of their own meals.
