I hope you had a wonderful first few days of classes! I just wanted to introduce myself in case you have not heard about me yet!
My name is Claire Ménard. I am the faculty in residence for Mews and Loving House. I am looking forward to meet all you during our desert nights events coming soon! (we had to postponed them this week, but next week we are on!).
I teach the French Language and French and International Cinema as a Senior Lecturer in the Romance Studies department in the College of Art and Sciences. I love travelling, teaching French, practicing crochet and collecting Tarot decks (I have a big collection). My research is mostly on film. I am interested in issues of coloniation and gender representation, as well as how neocapitalism is portrayed in works of fiction. I live in the building with my two sons (Theo, 3 and Morgan, 4 months) and my wonderful wife Anne-Caroline Sieffert (she goes by Acey and is French and Italian, and teaches French, Literature and her research on Women travellers at Binghamton University). We are very excited to start the semester with you in Mews and are hopig to share some of our passions and (maybe!) skills with all of you... We love cooking French and Italian food together and speak French at home. Acey has a very extensive collection of Antique Kodak cameras that she will be happy to show you. She loves talking about American and International events and what is going on in the news. She is an historian by training so she is a great resource if you have questions about American, French or European History.
Keep your eyes open for events. I will send you emails, put up posters in the building and post flyers on campus groups. There will be desert nights coming soon as well as a morning with newborn lambs of Cornell!
For now, a scavenger hunt will be organized by the FIR of North Campus on the 16th of September. We are looking to create teams of 5 students with a fellow/faculty in residence and an RA... Let me know if you are interested by sending me an email to cm879@cornell.edu. You can sign as a team or individually! See attached flyer for more info.
Best,
See you around Mews.
Prof. Claire Ménard
