About Us
JazzPlus encourages its members to carry on the deeply rooted histories and traditions of jazz, while simultaneously augmenting them through inspiration from other genres. While many members of the organization participate in department jazz ensembles, JazzPlus is open to everyone. JazzPlus presents workshops and clinics to musicians and listeners of the Cornell and Ithaca communities. Topics of discussion may include but are not limited to: jazz style, technique, composition, fundamentals, improvisation, history, culture, and performance. JazzPlus will sponsor a lecture series with guest artists from outside of the area as well as from the local community. JazzPlus will also facilitate musical events to provide the Cornell and surrounding communities with the opportunity to appreciate jazz by participating as performers and as spectators. Events may include but are not limited to: regular jazz-related social events, jam sessions and concerts on campus, publicizing JazzPlus and Cornell University Jazz Ensemble performances, and promotion of other jazz events on and off campus.
