Roommate Agreements are now available!

What is a 'Roommate Agreement'?

  • The purpose of a roommate agreement is to promote discussion and to provide roommates with the opportunity to reflect on their needs, develop and practice communication, and reflect on the needs of everyone in the space. This is a collaborative process.
  • RAs are able to utilize the Roommate Agreements when assisting with roommate mediation. If roommates have not completed the roommate agreement and are in conflict, the roommate agreement serves as a tool to assist roommates in discussing their expectations of their rooming experience and articulating their needs with one another.
  • Roommates are not limited to the questions included in the agreement. The agreement is a foundation for a conversation! 

How do I find the 'Roommate Agreement'?

  • Roommate agreements are electronic and located within StarRez and found through the Housing Portal (as a tab).
  • One roommate will need to initiate the form on StarRez to capture responses (roommates can work on this when they come together).
  • This roommate will then submit the completed form and the form will then be sent to the other roommate(s).
  • The other roommate(s) should then review to ensure everything was accurately captured. If everything is accurate and they agree on the content, they should then submit the form.
  • If anything was missed and an edit needs to be made, the resident can make edits. Once the edits have been made, the form will be sent back to the other resident(s) for their review. This is to ensure that everyone is aware of and agrees to the documented information.  

Once we make the 'Roommate Agreement'... then what??

  • Part of the living experience is also recognizing that needs evolve and as they do, mistakes happen/agreed upon expectations are not met.
  • It is important to remember that this agreement is a living document and can be revisited at any time!

Can my RA help us with our 'Roommate Agreement'?

  • Yes! Please reachout to an RA for support with completing your roommate agreement, or locating the agreement on StarRez!
  • RHDs are also available to assist with skill building and facilitating mediations.  
 

JAM Hall Council Information

As you learned at your floor meetings with your RAs, Hall Council is essentially the student council for JAM! Similar to the student council, Hall Council plans programs for the community and advocates for the needs of the residents in JAM. It is an amazing leadership opportunity to have early in your college career, and it is also a great way to become involved with the JAM community!

Become a Compost Manager for JAM

Compost Managers are student volunteers who reduce food waste on campus by managing kitchen compost buckets and educating their peers.  

  • Sign-up by Friday 9/1 
  • Attend training on Sat 9/2 at 11am or 2pm 

Each year, Compost Managers collectively send thousands of pounds of food scraps & napkins to Cornell’s on-campus compost facility. Learn more & sign-up today!

CU Downtown, an award-winning event that we can't wait to see you at! Join the Tatkon Center for New Students and Ithaca Downtown Alliance for an afternoon intended to welcome new and returning students to Ithaca. This year we are collaborating with Ithaca College and Tompkins-Cortland Community College. Explore downtown Ithaca and with the CU Marching and Pep Band kicking off the event at 12:30pm, stay to see student performances starting at 1pm and continuing throughout the afternoon. Take advantage of special student discounts and activities at retail stores and participate in the scavenger hunt. There will be lots of free giveaways as well!

Free TCAT bus shuttles will run from North Campus to the Commons all afternoon. Residence halls will be organizing walking and bus groups to help you find your way. There will be free donuts for the first 1,000 attendees.

This event is organized by the Tatkon Center for New Students, in partnership with the Ithaca Downtown Alliance, Ithaca College, and Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
