Join Faculty Fellow Prof. Ananda Cohen-Aponte for an evening with the Garifuna Collective, a musical ensemble from Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras known for its powerful blend of traditional and contemporary Garifuna music. The hybrid culture of the Afro-AmerIndian Garifuna communities, located on the Caribbean coasts of Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras, is influenced by West Africa and indigenous Carib, as well as the Arawak Indian language. The group’s performance celebrates the living culture and history of the Garifuna people through rhythm, song, and storytelling.
