Happiness and the Well-Lived Life: Reflect, connect and explore happiness across generations
Details
Senior Lecturer, Department of Psychology
What does it mean to live a well-lived life—and how do we find happiness along the way?
Dr. Segal will guide us through an exploration of the foundations of happiness and how they intersect with the values that shape a meaningful life.
We’ll consider the pillars of the West Campus House System—Active Citizenship, Cultural Learning, Intellectual Inquiry, and Health & Well-Being—as enduring touchstones across generations. From Plato’s reflections on virtue to the social transformations of the late 20th century and today, we’ll ask whether the pursuit of happiness and the essence of a well-lived life have remained constant or evolved over time.
We are also honored to welcome members of the Class of 1966, guests of the West Campus House System this week, whose presence will enrich our intergenerational dialogue. Together, we’ll reflect on how happiness has been understood, sought, and sustained—from 1966 to the present.
