The Cornell University Chorale’s Spring Concert, titled “Promises Aflight”, explores through music the significance and depth of promises, the spiritual threads that bind people together. Ever grounded in the present, we are constantly looking for ways to reach our hands into the nebulous future in search of clarity, hope, or meaning. One of mankind’s earliest, and yet everlasting ways of achieving this is by making promises with one another: through promises—of blessing, of love, of change and of peace—we begin to grasp and give shape to the unknowable future, shining the light of human connection through the veil of darkness.

Featuring an expansive repertoire of pieces from all around the world, the Chorale hopes to guide the audience with our voices through a journey to discover why we, as people, always return to promises. Performing songs from Italy, Germany, India, the Philippines, Venezuela, America, Taiwan, Slovenia and Latvia, and guided by conductor Yen-Hsiang Nieh and collaborative pianist Vera Hui-pin Hsu, the ensemble promises to the audience a moving and enduring evening of choral music.
