The Frontiers of Discovery Lecture Series brings influential researchers and innovators to Cornell to share the ideas and discoveries shaping the future of science and scholarship. By connecting students with leading experts, the series aims to inspire curiosity, interdisciplinary thinking, and meaningful dialogue across the Cornell community.

This event will feature Dr. John M. Martinis, recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics and a leading figure in the field of quantum computing. Dr. Martinis, a physicist at the University of California, Santa Barbara, was awarded the Nobel Prize for groundbreaking experiments demonstrating macroscopic quantum mechanical tunneling and energy quantization in superconducting electrical circuits, discoveries that helped show how quantum behavior can exist in systems large enough to engineer and control.

During this special lecture, Dr. Martinis will discuss the research that led to his Nobel Prize and share insights into the broader impact of his work on the field of physics. The program will include opening remarks from event organizers, followed by the keynote lecture and a moderated Q&A session where attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker.
