Details
Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire is a play that has made its mark on American theater ever since its inception in 1947. It follows the story of Blanche DuBois, the down-on-her-luck schoolteacher who moves to live with her sister Stella and her husband Stanley Kowalski. Stella welcomes Blanche to stay until she recuperates from her ordeal, but tensions grow between Blanche and Stanley as the status quo of the Kowalski household shifts. Williams’ play discusses the darker side of human desire and contains sexual violence, discussions of suicide, domestic abuse, and alcoholism. Themes include human desire, appearances and truth, and femininity and masculinity.
