Nature Connect | Listers: A glimpse into extreme birdwatching

Join us for the next Nature Connect Series, where we'll watch The Listers — a funny, honest, and slightly quirky sort-of-documentary about two brothers who dive into competitive birdwatching. They spend a year living in a van, traveling across the country for a Big Year.

What makes it fun is that they started out knowing almost nothing: very few species by sight, no songs or calls. Even late in the film, you can catch moments where these fast learners still have gaps in the basics. We'll use the movie as a jumping-off point to talk about the essentials of birdwatching and the citizen science behind the Big Year.

Then, in our next Nature Connect program, we'll head outside to go micro-birding on West Campus — learning to read bird behavior and using Merlin and eBird (both built by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology) to contribute to real science!
