Fort Baptist Farm's Story - run by former Becker House Professor, Ed Baptist and his wife, Dee Baptist who lived in Becker House for 6 years! After leaving Becker House, they started a farm!
"In 2017, our family began a journey to grow our own food, flowers, poultry, and eggs on land that historically belonged to the Native American Cayuga Nation. Inspired by the resilience and farming traditions of our ancestors, we founded Fort Baptist Farm—a Black-owned, family-run farm rooted in community values in upstate New York. We’re dedicated to providing fresh, healthy food that connects us deeply to the land and our heritage.
At Fort Baptist Farm, we believe that everyone should have access to healthy, sustainable food. Guided by a “people over profit” principle, we keep prices fair and quality high. Our produce includes culturally significant foods that are often unavailable in local markets but hold a special place in our community’s diverse backgrounds. Through our focus on food justice and accessibility, we’re working to build a more inclusive and sustainable food system for all."
We hope to pick wild ramps! Wild ramps (Allium tricoccum), or wild leeks, are highly prized, pungent, spring-emerging perennials found in Eastern North American hardwood forests, typically from April to May. Known for a sharp garlic-onion flavor, both their white bulbs and green leaves are edible.
Transportation is provided.
