"For Ukraine, the garden is a sacred symbol of national identity, a cultural code, and the embodiment of the pursuit of freedom and independence. It is not merely a plot of land with fruit trees, but a mental landmark and a form of cultural memory. When enemies try to destroy or rewrite Ukrainian history, tending a garden remains a way to affirm one’s presence on the land. Gardens can take many forms in any culture: they can be ideas, a bookstore, a quest for unguarded beauty, a desire to see the next generation free, or a passion for growing tomatoes and sharing them with others. And as long as society creates and protects these Gardens, it has a chance for the future."
