Dr. Hannah Eagleson will talk with Becker Cafe about her lifelong love of storytelling, the surprising discovery that a PhD in English is great prep for supporting scientists along with English majors, and her role as a Cornell chaplain. As a Cornell chaplain at Chesterton House, Hannah supports conversations about many topics, including how to find meaning in your career, how faith and environmental sustainability can inform each other, and why stories matter. Join us to think about your own stories, the texts and people who help shape them, and what a meaningful life and career can look like for you.

Dr. Eagleson serves as a Cornell chaplain with Chesterton House, where she works primarily with faculty and grad students and also provides strategic support for undergraduate learning and meaning making. She is also Director of Partnerships and Innovation for American Scientific Affiliation (ASA), a scholarly and professional society that helps Christians in science-related fields to work for the common good in their careers. Dr. Eagleson recently held a 2022-2023 Visiting Scholar role at Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS). Hannah holds a PhD in early modern literature from the University of Delaware, and an MA in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College (Annapolis, MD). She has published many literary study guides and the edited collection Science and Faith: Student Questions Explored (Hendrickson, 2019). Dr. Eagleson also copy-edited Mysterion, a collection of science fiction, fantasy and horror stories engaging with Christian themes, by authors from a wide range of perspectives. She writes poetry and is always trying to finish her fantasy novel about a dragon who owns a tea shop in 18th century London.
