About Us

Alpha Chi Omega was founded at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana on October 15, 1885. Its seven founders, who were all music students, sought "friendship, artistic society and advancement of the 'principles of true womanhood.'" Today, Alpha Chi Omega has over 200,000 members nationally with over 135 collegiate chapters and 200 alumnae chapters. The Zeta Phi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega was founded at Cornell in 1984 with 55 women. In the past thirty years, the Zeta Phi chapter has flourished from a small group of women meeting in classrooms to recognition as one of the strongest sororities on Cornell's campus - an organization in which academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership are exemplified through its 150 members. The Zeta Phi chapter is the oldest of the four Ivy League chapters of Alpha Chi Omega.
