The event is September 6th at 4:30 p.m. in Weill Hall 226, with a social reception to follow. Drinks and snacks will be provided, and no prior knowledge of science policy is required!
As our inaugural event of the year, Cornell Advancing Science and Policy Club (ASAP) will be hosting science communication educator and former Congressional Chief of Staff Mark Bayer to talk on "Fact, Feelings, and Fibs", and their role in shaping electoral decisions; new strategy to advocate around science that influences policy making; and insights on the recent SCOTUS Chevron decision and commitment to using science to inform regulatory matters.

Mark Bayer is the founder of Bayer Strategic Consulting, a boutique advocacy and training firm focused on helping STEM professionals master the keys for successfully interacting with policymakers and other influential stakeholders. Host of the weekly podcast When Science Speaks, Mark explores communications, science policy, and career issues affecting grad students, PhDs, executives, and senior scientists.
Formerly a Chief of Staff in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives during a 20-year Capitol Hill career, Mark spearheaded significant legislative initiatives that led to enactment of high-impact laws regarding science-informed national security, disease research, and accessibility.
He is a frequent speaker and workshop presenter and the creator of the Savvy Scientist Advocacy Training Program, a series of online, on-demand training webinars. Mark received his master's in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He is a magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Cornell University.
