Jo-Anne McArthur is an acclaimed Canadian photojournalist, author, and animal advocate. She documents the complex relationships between animals and humans and is the founder and president of We Animals Media, a non-profit media group. Her images capture animals' realities in the wild, on agricultural facilities, and in homes, a view which the public rarely sees. McArthur has authored several books, including We Animals, Captive, and HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene, as well as the creator of the documentary The Ghosts in Our Machine--a critically acclaimed documentary that highlights the plight of exploited animals.
