Settle in Barbs, we've got a lot to talk about!

You are almost to the halfway point of your first month here at Cornell! Give yourself a pat on the back! We hope that you've had time this past weekend to check out downtown Ithaca during CU Downtown and learn about on campus clubs during Clubfest.

Next week is Homecoming! All next week is spirit week with lots of giveaway opportunities. To see each of them, click here. There'll be everything from tie-dye to sweatshirts to movies on the quad (Hocus Pocus to kick off the fall season). Don't miss out on the Fireworks and Fan Festival, sign up here! You can also get tickets for the football game against Yale here

If Homecoming wasn't enough, we'll be having a number of events in the hall too! This week we've got a "Paint & Sip" event, Tastee Treat - Birthday Edition, trip to Seneca Falls and Harriet Tubman's home, Community Dinner, Tastee Treat Thursday, a visit to Cornell's Borehole Observatory, and more! Make sure you don't miss out on any of these incredible opportunities (limited space available for EVERYTHING)!

Community living reminders -

One of the best things about living on campus is the opportunity to live in a community with your peers and experience autonomy in your own space. With that autonomy comes learning what it means to live with new people!

Roommate agreements will be available soon online via the Housing Portal. Residents living in doubles are strongly encouraged to fill these out together! Just because you don't live in a double though doesn't mean you can't keep some key things in mind when it comes to using community spaces.

When it comes to the community bathrooms, be sure to:

  • Pick up after yourself (remember that if items are left in the bathroom then Building Care cannot clean the space).
  • Do not use tea kettles, hot water heaters, Keurigs, etc. in the bathroom. These items should only be used in the kitchen.
  • Dispose of menstrual products appropriately in the provided receptables.
  • Use the shower curtain to help keep water from going all over the shower area and prevent falls.

When it comes to the community kitchens, be sure to:

  • Don't leave dishes or food out, in the sink, or on the stove/countertop. If items are left out, then Building Care cannot clean the area.
  • Do not use/take food products that are not your own without prior approval of the owner. Also, don't assume that something is up for grabs just because it doesn't have a label on it (you know what you put in the fridge!).
  • Regularly discard expired products or items that have gone bad.
  • Do not throw room trash in lounge/kitchen trash bins.

When it comes to the laundry room, be sure to:

  • When a washer is not in use, leave the door slightly open to help prevent mildew.
  • If your items are not the belongings in the washer or dryer, please do NOT move them. Either wait for the person who owns the belongings to return or use another machine.
Cornell Concert Series -
Our amazing campus partners at Bailey Hall have a beautiful lineup for the fall! We are able to get tickets to events at a discounted price if shows are of interest to residents. There are three events this semester:
  • Sean Ardoin, September 17th at 8pm
    • "The Ardoin name is one of the most revered in Creole and zydeco music. Three-time Grammy nominee Sean Ardoin has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival."
  • Scottish Chamber Orchestra, October 15th at 3pm
    • "Hailed as 'one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the world today' by BBC Music Magazine, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra is known for its exceptional performances and its extensive, multi-award-winning recordings...this tour highlights an amazing Scottish National Treasure, violinist Nicola Benedetti..."
  • Smetana Trio, November 11th at 8pm
    • ÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïÔÇï"The Smetana Trio, comprised of violinist Jan Talich, cellist Jan Palenicek, and pianist Jitka Cechova, is today's foremost Czech chamber ensemble. Founded in 1934, the Smetana Trio advances the interpretational ideals created by its illustrious predecessors."ÔÇï
